Cut, not printed
The letters are cut clean through the steel, so the wall behind becomes part of the design and there is no printed layer to chip. It is why this works outdoors as readily as in a hallway.
Powder-coated for weather
Powder coat is baked on, which is the finish used on garden furniture for the same reason: it survives frost, rain and the occasional knock without rusting at the edge.
