The image sits on the back face and is read through the acrylic, which gives it depth and puts the ink somewhere a fingerprint cannot reach it.
Cast, not extruded
Cast acrylic is the grade that does not yellow under a window. Extruded sheet is cheaper, looks identical on day one, and goes amber within about three summers.

Frosted hides a busy photo background; clear suits a portrait shot against a plain wall. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason for a reprint.
