Thank-You Card Wording for Wedding Gifts (20 Examples)

Thank-You Card Wording for Wedding Gifts (20 Examples)

Twenty wordings you can adapt, plus the rules that make thank-you notes manageable rather than a three-month project.

In this guide

The rules

Handwrite them. Name the gift specifically. Send within two to three months of the wedding, and start before the honeymoon if gifts have already arrived. Split the list between you — each writes to their own side and you both sign.

Twenty a week, twice a week, and it is done in a month.

For a registry gift

  • “Thank you so much for the knife set — we used it the first night we were back and it is already the thing we reach for. Thank you for being with us on the day.”
  • “The glasses are beautiful, and we have already had them out twice. Thank you for celebrating with us.”
  • “Thank you for the linens — our spare room finally looks like somewhere people would want to sleep.”

For cash or a contribution

  • “Thank you so much for your generous gift. We put it towards the last leg of the honeymoon — we spent three days in Kyoto because of you.”
  • “Your gift is going towards the deposit on our first house, which feels like the best possible use of it. Thank you.”
  • “Thank you for the very kind gift, and for travelling so far to be with us.”

For a personalised or sentimental gift

  • “The print of our vows is already on the wall in the hallway. We read it more than we expected to. Thank you.”
  • “Thank you for the restored photograph of Grandma and Grandad — Mum cried, and it is now on the mantelpiece.”
  • “The keepsake box has everything in it already: the certificate, the confetti, your card.”

For guests who did not attend, or who did something rather than gave

  • “We were so sorry you could not be there — thank you for the lovely gift and for the note, which we both read twice.”
  • “Thank you for reading at the ceremony. Three separate people told us it was their favourite moment of the day.”
  • “Thank you for driving everyone home, for setting up the chairs, and for never once being asked twice.”

Practical set-up

Order thank-you cards with your stationery, so they match. Keep the gift log in the same spreadsheet as the guest list, with a column for the gift and one for “sent”. Buy stamps once, in bulk. And write the card for anyone who gave cash immediately — unsigned envelopes are the one gift you cannot reconstruct later.
